China's Chang'e-6 Moon Mission to Collect First Lunar Far Side Samples
China plans to launch the Chang'e-6 lunar probe to collect samples in the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the far side of the moon "around 2024." If the mission succeeds, humans will have access to samples from the far side of the moon for the first time. China's long-term goal is to collect and return lunar samples across regions and ages. This will improve humanity's understanding of the Earth's moon, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). The far side of the moon, viewed as older than the near side, has important scientific research value.
