United Arab Emirates Astronaut Nora Al Matrooshi Interview | IWASM
Selected in 2021, Nora Al Matrooshi became the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) first ever female astronaut. She trained alongside the most recent NASA astronaut class, including her compatriot, Mohammed Al-Mulla, graduating in March 2024. Nora Al Matrooshi, hailing from UAE's third largest city, Sharjah, possesses an impressive academic background. She graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the United Arab Emirates University and further honed her skills through specialized training at the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in Finland. Nora also studied the Korean language at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea.
Starting in 2016, she worked as a piping engineer at the UAE's Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. She is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
Nora was chosen from over 4,000 candidates to be trained for future space exploration missions.
