NASA’s SpaceX Crew-10 Mission Liftoff | Kennedy Space Center

The flight is the 10th crew rotation with SpaceX to the International Space Station as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program (CCP). While aboard, the international crew will conduct scientific investigations and technology demonstrations to help prepare humans for future missions and benefit people on Earth.

The number of crew aboard the space station will increase to 11 for a short time as Crew-10 joins NASA astronauts Nick Hague, Suni Williams, Butch Wilmore, and Don Pettit, as well as Roscosmos cosmonauts Aleksandr Gorbunov, Alexey Ovchinin, and Ivan Vagner. Following a brief handover period, Hague, Williams, Wilmore, and Gorbunov will return to Earth no earlier than Wednesday, March 19, 2025. Ahead of Crew-9’s departure from station, mission teams will review weather conditions at the splashdown sites off the coast of Florida.

Once the crew safely reached Earth orbit, Crew-10 Commander Anne McClain shared this message: "Thank you to all of the teams from across the world who contributed to the launch today. Space flight is tough, but humans are tougher."

"Days like today are made possible only when people choose to do the harder right over the easier runs, build relationships, choose cooperation, and believe in the inherent goodness of all people across the world. To my family and friends, without you, I would not be here."

"Explore boldly. Live gracefully. Go Crew-10!"

Crew-10 Pilot Nichole Ayers also stated: "We are not the first humans to reach orbit and we would not be here without the bravery and hard work of those who paved the way for human spaceflight. We now get the unique perspective of Earth without borders and get to revel in the connectedness of humanity . . ."

This is Japan's original MMX Mission concept before the German-French IDEFIX rover was added. How did Mars’ moons Phobos and Deimos form? The Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) Mission aims to answer this very question. Developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the spacecraft will explore Phobos from orbit and collect samples from its surface. On board MMX will be the IDEFIX rover—a collaboration between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the French space agency, Centre national d'études spatiales (CNES). IDEFIX will land on Phobos, analyze its surface properties and help select a suitable landing site for the MMX mothership. The MMX mission is scheduled to launch from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Center in 2026.

Deimos Moon over Planet Mars Europe's Hera Asteroid Mission

The European Space Agency's Hera Mission captured this close-up view of the Martian moon Deimos at a distance of around 1,000 kilometers. Like Phobos, Deimos is a small and lumpy, heavily cratered object. Its craters are generally smaller than 1.6 miles (2.5 kilometers) in diameter, however, and it lacks the grooves and ridges seen on Phobos. When impacted, dust and debris will leave the surface of the moon because it does not have enough gravitational pull to retain the ejecta. However, the gravity from Mars will keep a ring of this debris around the planet in approximately the same region that the moon orbits. As the moon revolves, the debris is redeposited as a dusty layer on its surface. Deimos has a thick regolith, perhaps as deep as 328 feet (100 meters), formed as meteorites pulverized the surface.

Deimos is a dark body that appears to be composed of C-type surface materials, similar to that of asteroids found in the outer asteroid belt. 

The Hera spacecraft will revisit the Dimorphos asteroid to gather vital close-up data about the deflected body after NASA's DART Mission performed a grand-scale experiment by applying a well-understood and potentially repeatable planetary defence technique. 

On September 26, 2022, moving at 6.1 km/s, NASA’s DART spacecraft crashed into the Dimorphos asteroid. Part of our Solar System changed. The impact shrunk the orbit of the Great Pyramid-sized Dimorphos around its parent asteroid, the mountain-sized Didymos. 

The Hera Mission will also perform the most detailed exploration yet of a binary asteroid system—although binaries make up 15% of all known asteroids, one has never been surveyed in detail.

Hera will also perform technology demonstration experiments, including the deployment of the European Space Agency’s first deep space ‘CubeSats’—shoebox-sized spacecraft to venture closer than the main mission then eventually land—and an ambitious test of 'self-driving' for the main spacecraft, based on vision-based navigation.

What is a Lunar Eclipse? | The Florida Space Institute

What is a Lunar Eclipse? ‪The Florida Space Institute‬'s Julie Brisset talks about what makes this eclipse so special!  Of course, this can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned (in syzygy) with Earth between the other two. During these rare events, the full Moon rapidly darkens and then glows red as it enters the Earth's shadow. A small amount of indirect sunlight is still reaching the Moon, passing through Earth's atmosphere, resulting in a reddish hue. This light appears reddish due to the Rayleigh scattering of blue light, the same reason sunrises and sunsets are more orange than during the day.

Dr. Julie Brisset is the Interim Director for the Florida Space Institute and an accomplished researcher in the space field. In 2014, Dr. Brisset earned her Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Braunshweig, Germany. Her research focuses on experimental physics, specifically the behavior of dust and ice grains in microgravity conditions, with applications to the early stages of planet formation and the structure and surfaces of small bodies in the Solar System.

360 Degree View: Athena Lunar Lander Descent | IM-2 Mission | Intuitive Machines

This 360 image is stitched together using four cameras on Intuitive Machines' IM-2 mission lander, Athena, during descent toward the lunar surface on March 6, 2025.

Intuitive Machines Final Update: "The IM-2 mission lunar lander, Athena, landed 250 meters from its intended landing site in the Mons Mouton region of the lunar south pole, inside of a crater."

"Images downlinked from Athena on the lunar surface confirmed that Athena was on her side. After landing, mission controllers were able to accelerate several program and payload milestones, including NASA’s PRIME-1 suite, before the lander’s batteries depleted."

"With the direction of the sun, the orientation of the solar panels, and extreme cold temperatures in the crater, Intuitive Machines does not expect Athena to recharge. The mission has concluded and teams are continuing to assess the data collected throughout the mission."

"This southern pole region is lit by harsh sun angles and limited direct communication with the Earth. This area has been avoided due to its rugged terrain and Intuitive Machines believes the insights and achievements from IM-2 will open this region for further space exploration."

This compressed, resolution-limited video features a preliminary sequence of the Blue Ghost final descent and landing that NASA researchers stitched together from SCALPSS 1.1’s four short-focal-length cameras, capturing images at 8 frames per second. Altitude data is approximate.

The Stereo Cameras for Lunar-Plume Surface Studies (SCALPSS) 1.1 instrument took the images during the descent and successful soft landing of Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lunar lander on the Moon’s Mare Crisium region on March 2, 2025 as part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative.

This is part of NASA’s CLPS initiative and Artemis campaign to establish a long-term lunar presence. Blue Ghost Mission 1 will perform science and technology demonstrations, including lunar subsurface drilling, sample collection, and X-ray imaging of Earth’s magnetic field to advance research for future human missions on the Moon and provide insights into how space weather impacts the planet. Mare Crisium is a lunar mare located in the Moon's Crisium basin, just northeast of Mare Tranquillitatis. It was formed by the flooding of basaltic lava that filled an ancient asteroid impact.
